Microsoft Extends Oive Branch After OneDrive Cloud Storage Storm

Microsoft has backtracked on reactions in service to cloud storage limits onedrive last month, returning part of the data map, which was created to make excuses and blame overuse users. But customers still have to choose to keep their extra storage, and the changes will end after one year.

The company confirmed the changes in a post on his forum onedrive users, giving users "affected" by changes in the opportunity for additional storage for a limited time, and the possibility of opting to keep premiums when free storage onedrive plans are reviewed early next year.

The mea culpa comes a month after Microsoft announced major changes in cloud storage, halving the storage limits for the payment plan (while the same price is maintained), the lower limits of free maps 15 GB 5 GB, leaving its storage chamber storage roll bonus of 15 GB and completely demolished "unlimited" for all users.

The company hopes the move will appease customers and gain some favor in a market and competitive cloud storage.

Microsoft is against rivals like Dropbox, Google Drive and Apple's iCloud-centric, hoping to be the only place where users can store all your files to access cloud based everywhere. While each provider offers free storage, these companies generate their revenues through payment plans and storage limits are the kings of deciding where customers are willing to hang their hats (and files).

But the group program manager Douglas Pearce Microsoft came hat in hand to customers, apologizing for the recent changes in the onedrive schemes and the way they were communicated. In his message on the forum of onedrive user, Pearce said. "Sincerely sorry for the frustration that this decision caused" "The announcement came across as blaming customers for the use of our product" and Microsoft was Culpa called Microsoft calling for "a small number of users" on unlimited plans to "extreme scenarios copy of security," in some cases up to 75TB data stored in the cloud.

While Microsoft initially established on the restriction of use, Pearce said Cabinet 365 payment, personal customers, and the University will continue to receive 1TB storage, and users who have received additional storage under Microsoft offers unlimited maintain this limit for at least 12 months.

For better with dissatisfied customers of free service, anyone with more than 5 GB of content stored in the cloud (in the old limit of 15 GB free storage) will receive 365 personal desktop without subscription for a year. The offer will arrive by mail early next year, and will bring 1TB of storage.

Finally, Microsoft offers an opt-in for their "biggest fans" keep your 15 GB of free storage after storage limits are cut early next year (and keep your camera roll edge 15 Well, if you currently have instead). And what constitutes being a fan? Onedrive go to the website in late January 2016 and connect to the bonus.

While the changes may take a long way to pacify irate customers about storage limitations, still go part of the way to scrounge cuts in November. Moreover, customers will be the main users to enjoy the existing bonus or opt for a raise. There is also no word on whether the changes will last more than a year.

Microsoft’s OneDrive debacle shows its cloud commitment is weaker than promised

When Microsoft announced earlier this week that it would no longer distributed storage with unlimited Cloud Office 365 subscribers through its service onedrive affected people obviously were not thrilled. Users who have already been without limits for the buffet all you can eat that was the endless cloud storage will soon be limited to 1 TB less satisfactory. Closed on plans 100 and 200 GB reduced to a sad 50GB at the same monthly cost. Even free users will be affected by a reduction to a meager 15 GB 5 GB of free storage. And it all happens without mentioning the film of 15 GB, which is quite the ax.
You may not, at first glance, to understand why this is frustrating. So we were cheated - A company has changed his mind a year later, because it was losing money - what's new?
But that's not the whole story. No, unlimited gift was a setback for Microsoft loyal customers a little less than a year ago. Before that, storage plans were exactly as they are now limited. Microsoft is about to face more than a career politician, but why? To make a dent in the market share of Google, of course!

A shot in the dark to Google Drive

Instead of focusing on improving global onedrive experience for its loyal customers, Microsoft was more interested in stealing customers of Google, its main rival in the cloud storage, despite the inevitable repercussions. Microsoft has explicitly called for a "war of productivity" which would - if Microsoft has its way -. Let Google and Microsoft revenue bleeding drowning Unfortunately, however, the company soon realized that was not prepared for the next fight.

Related: Why after all, no way should not even consider buying a Windows Phone
That's because, despite offering storage in the "unlimited" cloud, onedrive team ignored the fact that many of its subscribers would really enjoy unlimited storage capacity. In turn, when Microsoft has made some of its members have been added, for example, the value of pirated films collections of 75 terabytes, their jabs at Google simply not worth the cost.

However, given the average Office 365 subscribers use about 5.5 GB of its unlimited, those unauthorized downloading huge catalogs of films designated onedrive were clearly in the minority.
Microsoft did not want to allow unlimited storage
In an official statement on the blog onedrive, Redmond said it was committed to "extreme scenarios copy of security" in order to refocus on collaborative productivity solutions. First, this is not true. Secondly, it is an easy way out to wait a company proactively trying to save his own skin. As with any storage solution, the purpose of onedrive must be versatile. It should not be dependent on the specific needs of a person. It may be collaboratively and wide simultaneously.
Some dishonest users downloading a ton of data does not require as drastic as the omission of the boundary layer together measures. Unlimited duration means that there is, in fact, no limits, no bounds. Of course, some people take advantage of that. Forecast Sales of Microsoft would have taken this into account before increasing your storage options last year

Microsoft is not certain distrust San Francisco startup. It is a business worth billions of dollars, but with a number of specialists highly qualified market research. As such, you should know that his word could inflict more harm to society than the loss of a few thousand dollars a few Grabbers Internet files.
Small businesses are limitless - so Microsoft can too

I've never heard of CrashPlan or BackBlaze? Congratulations to you if they have. Certainly I lived under a rock, so when I came across these services at hand, I was amazed. For $ 5 per month you can get unlimited cloud storage of these companies. They are not giving up productivity or making use of technological clichés like "When the world is your office, your assistant CrashPlan backup staff."

Despite ensure coverage of the mainstream media as WSJ, NBC, etc. These companies are microscopic compared to Microsoft. But somehow they can afford to distribute an unlimited storage at an even lower cost to its customers.

Obviously, they will realize that a few copies in each season of your favorite HBO shows, even if it is equal to a few terabytes. But an enterprise cloud storage competent sales ignore the minority - no matter how endemic - in favor of the dominant clientele. Those who ignore the service to all but the download of the value of a few gigabytes in documents. Those who help the company make a profit.

Google lending market

If nothing more was heard of this, Microsoft may finally discover that precautions must be taken before the implementation of changes in the Monumental service. Instead of neglecting the consequences for a healthy company some competition, maybe Redmond should take a step back and say, "Hey, if we announce something as indefinite, perhaps we should not completely change the one thing that people like our service as increasing our operating expenses. "

Microsoft invests more time related to Android, releases its own launcher

Competition is good. If Microsoft wants to end Google Drive, I say go for it. But do not play with your customers along the way. This does not mean a permanent long-term solution to steal market share. In fact, Microsoft did not steal Google's market at all. She just borrowed and quickly decided to turn away. Except, for some reason, you have a strong preference for using Google Docs in Microsoft Word, there is little incentive to subscribe onedrive more.

Microsoft has made much progress lately. Windows 10 is large. The book is flying surface stores. But perhaps his greatest reason, in recent times, it was a supposed concern for the future "cloud-first". This might be true if you are a customer looking for enterprise storage in the cloud for a web platform or thousands of employees. If you are an individual, however, it seems that Microsoft does not mind being in the cloud first.
