Yahoo reaches search deal with Google after loosening Microsoft ties

Yahoo announced a search deal with Google, enjoying an earlier review of its long Microsoft Yahoo search Date pact has the option to use alternative services to power its Internet search services and advertising.

The agreement between Google and Yahoo was revealed some time ago in a regulatory filing by Yahoo. Under the agreement, Google will provide search results of web search service announcements and image search for any number of queries from users of Yahoo, desktop and mobile platforms.

According to the regulatory filing, the non-exclusive agreement will allow Yahoo to continue working with Microsoft as well.

Here is an excerpt from the statement describing the Yahoo deal with Google.

The October 19, 2015, Yahoo! Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Yahoo!") and Google Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Google") have reached an agreement on services (the "Services Agreement " Google ). The service agreement is effective from October 1, 2015 and expires on 31 December 2018. According to the service agreement, Google will provide Yahoo with search ads through Google's AdSense for Search service ( "AFS"), algorithmic search services through Web services and image search services Google WebSearch. The results provided by Google for these services will be available for viewing on Yahoo desktop and mobile platforms. Yahoo can use the services of Google on Yahoo properties owned and operated ("Properties of Yahoo") and partners to organize certain properties ("Affiliate Sites") in the United States (US), Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Middle East, Africa, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Australia and New Zealand.

Under the service agreement, Yahoo has discretion to select the search requests sent to Google and is not required to send a minimum number of search queries. The service agreement is not exclusive and expressly permits use other services of Yahoo search advertising, including its own service, the services of Microsoft Corporation or other third parties.

The regulatory filing said that Yahoo and Google "according to certain procedures with the Division of United States Department of Justice Antitrust" to revise the agreement "including delaying the implementation of the Agreement on Services States to provide DOJ with a reasonable period of review. "antitrust issues vetoed a previous agreement announced by Google and Yahoo in 2008.

Yahoo, which has just announced quarterly results that fell short of analysts' expectations, said in a press release that the agreement provides Yahoo "more flexibility in choosing providers of search results and ads. The Google It offers complement investigative services provided by Microsoft, which remains a strong partner and own search technology and Yahoo advertising products. "

The offer of Yahoo with Microsoft, which was reached by former CEO Bartz and Steve Ballmer over six years ago, has been reviewed by the Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella earlier this year. The review is complete exclusivity agreement between Yahoo and Microsoft on the desktop, allowing Yahoo to explore partnerships with others, too. Mayer was Google CEO before joining Yahoo as CEO.

Google still dominates the search market in the United States, with nearly 64 percent of consultations last month, compared with 20.7 percent for Microsoft and Yahoo at 12.6 percent, according to ComScore's latest data. Yahoo's share dropped significantly since the abolition of the original agreement with Microsoft.

Update, 15:00 Microsoft offered this statement in response to our survey: "We remain committed to society syndication Yahoo and continue to serve the most traffic from Yahoo, as indicated in our contract extension is a valued partner Yahoo. and we hope to continue to serve our advertising clients through Microsoft AdCenter market.
