The decline in business in smartphones comes as Mr. Nadella, who became CEO last year, Microsoft has pulled out of the initiatives started by Ballmer.
Mr. Nadella sent an email to the entire company in late June to bring all employees for next year. He also warned in the message that Microsoft would have to "make tough decisions in areas where things are not working and solve difficult problems in ways that create value for customers."

Microsoft continued to lose market share in smartphones from the company's acquisition of Nokia phones. The company has managed to reverse the Windows Phone operating system, running on their phones in a dynamic alternative to the two major mobile platforms, Apple iOS and Google Android.
Last month, the company said Stephen Elop, former general manager of Nokia which became a leading Microsoft CEO after the acquisition, monitoring their business devices, would Microsoft.
Instead of attending to all buyers of smartphones, Microsoft said it would reduce its attention to three types of customers: business users who want management applications, strong security and productivity; buyers looking for cheap cell phones; and Windows fans.
Microsoft said that $ 7.6 billion charge was made during its fiscal fourth quarter ended June 30, and that would be a non-cash charge reflecting the lower business performance of smartphones, which continued to lose money and market share. Microsoft said it would also take a restructuring charge of $ 750 million cash to $ 850 in respect of redundancies.
Investors had a muted reaction to the news, with shares in the company by 0.1 percent to $ 44.24, for the day.
Ballmer Nokia acquired largely due to an alliance between the two companies was in danger, with the prospect of Microsoft's mobile business could have collapsed completely. When the deal was announced in 2013, Nokia was the largest manufacturer of phones based on Windows Phone, which is still true today. But there was fear within Microsoft that Nokia could change allegiance to Android, the more popular that Google mobile operating system.
